A new stereo mix from , are we waiting for that in 2017? Shouldn't you just leave masterpieces like this one by The Beatles alone? This CD, released in honor of the 50th anniversary of the album, provides a convincing answer. The remix by Giles Martin, son of Beatles producer George Martin, is much nicer to listen to than the original stereo mix. That was because in 1967 The Beatles had no interest
… in stereo at all. All attention was paid to the mono version, because the vast majority of listeners then only had mono equipment. In the from 1967 instruments and vocals seem to have been placed haphazardly left and right. The new version is much quieter, with at least the most important parts neatly in the middle. Martin has not done too many modern antics, so Sgt. Pepper otherwise just sounds like a 1967 album. For the most authentic experience: the original mono mix can be heard on the fourth disc. (JE)more
