On Narrow Road, Nicolás Jaar and Dave Harrington once again join forces for a serving of titillating music. On
Psychic (2013), the pair kneaded countless genres into a slumbering whole. It's no different on Narrow Road. Much of the album was written back around 2018 and hints at the far-reaching climate changes the world is facing. Jaar and Harrington seek a constant tension between minimalist
… soundscapes and restrained danceability. In addition to electronics, there is an even greater emphasis on acoustic instruments this time around. Every now and then groovy guitar riffs sneak through, but they just as easily switch to an improvisational jazzy drum part. They also incorporate sounds of nature into their music, such as birdsong and insects. As a listener you're constantly tossed back and forth between playfulness and mysticism on this extraordinary album. (JvQ)more
