Well before this double CD, the first of a series of three, was released, there was already a lot to do about this album. Expectations were therefore high. The first CD opens with Free As A Bird, also released as a single, a demo by John Lennon recorded in 1977 and provided with accompaniment and backing vocals by the other Beatles in the spring of 1994. The song sounds like Sgt Pepper's songs from
… 1967 Furthermore, very early recordings from 1958 and 1960 of not very good sound quality. This album also contains a number of songs from the failed audition for Decca in 1962, previously unreleased live recordings and demos of Love Me Do, One After 909, No Reply, Eight Days A Week and I'll Be Back. For the Beatle fanatic, this is an indispensable addition to his or her collection. (CK)more
