None other than radio / TV maker Jan Douwe Kroeske took it upon himself to dedicate a box set to one of the Netherlands' most legendary bands: Cuby & The Blizzards. The genesis of the band, which in the 1960s was regarded as the Dutch answer to the British white 'blues boom', is revealed in a beautiful documentary of more than two hours by Léon Verkade and Flip van der Enden, in which the main
… actors involved have their say, with lead roles for singer Harry 'Cuby' Muskee, star guitarist Eelco Gelling and (on archive footage) pianist and 'enfant terrible' Herman Brood. The famous collaborations with bluesman Eddy Boyd and Van Morrison are of course also discussed extensively. That the band is still relevant in the new millennium is evident from the 2 Meter Session, which was recorded in 2005 in the Boerderij in Grolloo, Drenthe, where the band rehearsed in the sixties. To complete the picture, a CD is included with previously unreleased recordings of a 1970 concert (in the Arcade hall in Schiedam) and you can enjoy photos and other archive material in a hundred-page booklet.
