One of the nicest debut albums of late comes from a veteran. In daily life, singer Joan Garriga plays the accordion in Disminguet, one of the trendsetters of the musica mestizo. Musica mestizo is the Catalan junk pot in which all kinds of music styles are stirred together into a dish that is as summery as it is danceable. The main ingredients of Clavell Morenet are flamenco, rumba and cumbia, mixed
… with hints of raï, rock and reggae. The international character of La Troba Kung-Fú is also reflected in the booklet, which looks like an old encyclopedia. The texts are written in Spanish, English, French, Japanese and Dutch. Where the band name comes from remains shrouded in mystery, because musical references to Japanese martial arts are not heard on Clavell Morenet. (PdK)more
