Joris Linssen has become nationally known as a presenter of television programs such as Hello Goodbye, Taxi and Joris' Showroom. Yet he has been active in the music world for longer as a singer and lyricist, including as a singer in the Utrecht guitar rock band The Vendettas and as 'smartlappenkoning' Ome Cor. During a study stay in Mexico City for months, his love for mariachi music grew. His dream
… of starting a Dutch-speaking mariachi band was fulfilled in 1999 after a successful introduction to the acoustic folk pop trio The Bald & The Beautiful. Under the band name Caramba, Linssen and the trio perform translations of mariachi covers and their own songs in Latin American idiom with a lot of emotion and pathos. On the third studio album Vuur, the ratio of covers and original compositions is about fifty-fifty. Linssen sings emotionally about love in all its manifestations: from adoring infatuation to love pain due to a burnt out or broken relationship. The combo with accordion, guitars, double bass and the typical trumpets skilfully takes us into warm-blooded atmospheres. (SvdP)more
