Although the line-up of Fleetwood Mac has changed many times since it was founded in the late 1960s, the line-up at the time of Rumors (1977) is considered the most successful, both artistically and commercially. On the supergroup's first studio album in the new millennium, only keyboardist Christine McVie is missing from the 'dream team'. Her absence is somewhat betrayed by the timbre of the choirs
… and the band sound, which, due to the absence of McVie's piano, is more than ever based on Buckingham's guitar playing. Nevertheless, the record sounds unmistakably like Fleetwood Mac. This time the song material was provided entirely by the former couple Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, with the latter taking over the production. The name givers of the group (drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie) provide the familiar solid rhythmic basis, which is more refined than meets the eye and always serves the song. When it comes to high-quality adult oriented rock, Fleetwood Mac remains in a class of its own. (MS)more
