In his spare time Dave Grohl (ex-Nirvana) plays drums with befriended rock bands such as Queens Of The Stone Age, but he still considers his own band Foo Fighters to be his main activity. On the first album of the same name from 1995, Grohl still took care of all the instruments, but at the time of the fifth album One By One, Foo Fighters is a close live band. As with Nirvana, Grohl's songs go hand
… in hand with heavy guitar riffs and memorable melodies. While the songs of his former band member Kurt Cobain had a haunted undertone, Grohl's creations generally have a lighter character. That lack of urgency means that the music seldom reaches for the throat immediately. Just like the previous albums by the Foo Fighters, One By One is a catchy pop album, which also sounds solid enough for fans of punk and hard rock. Nothing less but nothing more. (MS)more
