The Hammond organ - an electric church organ for the home - was once dismissed as a shiver by guardians of good taste. Undoubtedly, they weren't rock fans either, because it is precisely in this genre that the shiver has acquired its own place from the sixties onwards: from Booker T. & The MG's to the growling and burning organ rock of Deep Purple, Focus and Ekseption. The aptly named quartet
… Orgel Vreten arose from a live battle between organists Thijs Schrijnemakers (Wende Snijders, Stereo) and Robin Piso. The latter had to drop out due to obligations to his band DeWolff. Darius Timmer succeeded him. Komrad offers a cool feel-good mix of the names mentioned above - a kind of Booker T. meets Rick van der Linden - that never gets boring. Prominent guests such as guitarist Anton Goudsmit and saxophonist Benjamin Herman make additional contributions to an album that growls, burns and shivers pleasantly from start to finish. (MR)more
