Millions of tickets were requested for the one-off reunion concert of supergroup Led Zeppelin. In Europe, the four Britons in the 1970s were not allowed to be as big as in America (where they were one of the first stadium bands), after the disbandment in 1980 their star only grew and became an important inspiration for many artists and bands. Led Zeppelin had it all: a super guitarist (Jimmy Page),
… an executioner of a drummer (John Bonham), a virtuoso bassist / keyboardist (John Paul Jones), a blonde god as singer (Robert Plant) and of course the rock epic Stairway To Heaven as Legacy. So there was something to celebrate on that December day in 2007, in London's 02 Arena. With Jason Bonham as observer of the late father, Led Zeppelin plays a mighty concert, peppered with all the well-known songs from those heydays. Page, Plant and Jones look well preserved and still exude the toughness their massive rock evokes. Of course it adds nothing to recordings of yesteryear, but sound and image are exemplary and give a vivid impression of this feast day for rock. (MR)more
