In 2011, the leading English music magazine Mojo proclaimed Ringo Starr an icon. At the age of 71, the former Beatles drummer was handed the Mojo Icon Award. No one would grudge Ringo. Starr is known as one of the nicest people in the music business. No wonder, then, that he effortlessly manages to drum up a trio of famous guests (Joe Walsh, Van Dyke Parks and Dave Stewart) to play on 2012, his
… fifteenth solo album. Still, the lead role is for Ringo himself. He drums, sings, plays guitar and keys. Where his ex-colleague Paul released an album full of pre-war standards (Kisses On The Bottom) in the same week, Starr stays much closer to the Beatles work. This CD contains nine uplifting nothing-to-the-hand rock songs. That the best song (Anthem) is a quote from your own work (Birthday from the White Album), you would of course want to forgive an icon like Ringo. (PdK)more
