The collected recordings that Led Zeppelin made for the British national broadcaster between 1969 and 1971 were first released on CD in 1997. The double album was immediately embraced by fans of these British rock dinosaurs as a highlight. In a first session from 1969 we hear the quartet, even before the release of their debut, as young dogs find their way through later classics such as Communication
… Breakdown and Dazed And Confused. They still sound rough and pointed, while the second CD shows that Dazed And Confused has been stretched two years later to a rock monster of almost 20 minutes. The group is already mega in America, but makes radio recordings in a small theater in England. Here they play beautiful performances of Stairway To Heaven, Going To California and Immigrant Song, among others. As befits radio recordings, everything was recorded clearly and without fuss. More than on the pompous live album (1976), you can hear just how good this band was live. This remaster supervised by guitarist offers a third CD with outtakes. (MR)more
