Claude Nobs, the director of the Montreux Festival, and Carlos Santana are friends. As a favor to friends, Carlos was also allowed to program part of the 2011 edition and close the evening himself. Anyone who knows Santana knows that he likes to take his time. To capture this three-hour concert entirely on DVD, two discs are needed. Santana is therefore a musical glutton who plays salsa, blues, free
… jazz and even rap just as easily. And of course the classics with which he wrote pop history in the early 1970s. Carlos is completely in white and therefore the undisputed eye-catcher. His eleven-piece band consists of wind instruments, a battery of percussionists and his regular sidekick, the Dutch bass player Benny Rietveld. After fifteen minutes Black Magic Woman and Oye Como Va come by, but even after those hits Santana continues to fascinate his audience. This double DVD features the musical craftsmanship of this unique Latin rock pioneer. (PdK)more
