You can't help but admire the persistence and energy with which the Hague band Golden Earring, more than forty years after its founding in 1961, continues to storm the Dutch stages and charts. Also at Millbrook USA we do not hear a trace of wear and tear on the voices of Barry Hay, who traditionally takes care of the rock songs and George Kooijmans, who sings the more pop-tinged songs. Golden Earring
… has always had a good nose for musical developments. For example, in the seventies the group switched to hard rock just in time, in order to seamlessly tap into the acoustic trend of the moment with The Naked Truth in the nineties. At Millbrook USA, which was recorded in the American Millbrook Studio, the band reverts to the familiar rock sound. In the first single Albino Moon space has even been built in for the characteristic shuffle rhythm, the trademark of drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk. It is a big nod to the famous instrumental middle piece of the group's most successful single: Radar Love. Golden Earring does not reinvent itself with this record, but is clearly still looking forward to it after all these years. (MS)more
