This twentieth album by Eric Clapton can in fact be seen as a sequel to 2010's Clapton. Old Sock, like its predecessor, has a large number of covers of songs that have been important to the guitar virtuoso over the years. For example, classics such as Born To Lose, Still Got The Blues and Goodnight Irene have been cast in a Clapton jacket. In addition to ten covers, two new tracks have been added
… to the album in the form of Gotta Get Over (an atmospheric collaboration with Chaka Khan) and the romantic Every Little Thing. Khan isn't the only guest musician at Old Sock, JJ Cale, Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood and Taj Mahal also contribute. An impressive list that adds a little more grandeur to the quality of this already excellent album. As the cover of the album suggests, Old Sock has become a cheerful record, with in addition to the characteristic Clapton blues also a good dose of reggae from time to time. (BvdV)more
